Cook’s Notes second week of March

Warm Greetings,

I had a bit of a vacation and spent a few days in New Orleans or “Nawlins” as the locals call it. The weather was cool for them but warmer than here. The food was amazing and the music was fabulous. I have romanticized about visiting New Orleans for years. My father went to graduate school at Tulane. My parents lived in the French Quarter when they were young newly weds. My oldest brother was born there. I have memories from early childhood of my mother’s stories of their life there. She was a drummer throughout her school years and loved music dearly. My father one time volunteered her to sit in on drums with Louise Prima and she did. It was an enchanting visit. I am refreshed.

The ground is soft enough that I will be out turning some of my garden to put peas in today. I love to have them in by St. Patrick’s Day. An early start seems to build on the excitement of the gardening season for me.

The next Plymouth Farmer’s market will be held at the Plantation on Thursday 3/18. You may visit Plymouth Local Foods Web site for additional details.

I will be scheduling more cooking classes for April. Please send along your requests with the best days and times for your availability.

Best wishes for a beautiful spring like day,

Martha and family
